Performance & Handling
The first thing to note regarding the 2012 Mazda CX-7 is the fact that the vehicle comes available in five different trims, which are separated into two different classes: CX-7 i and CX-7 s. The entry-level i class trims come standard with a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with VVT that produces 161 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque. The upgraded s class trims come equipped with a more powerful 2.3-liter DOCH DISI turbocharged four-cylinder engine with VVT that ups the 2012 CX-7's output to 244 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The i class engine comes paired with a five-speed automatic Sport transmission with Adaptive Shift Logic and manual shift mode, while the larger engine receives a six-speed automatic Sport transmission with Adaptive Shift Logic and manual-shift mode. Again, the drivetrains between classes differ: both come standard with a front-wheel drive system, but only the s class can opt for an Active Torque Split All-Wheel Drive system. Fuel economies vary between the smaller engine (20 city/26 highway mpg) and the larger when equipped with four-wheel drive (17 city/21 highway mpg).
Handling features for the 2012 CX-7 include Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, and anti-locking brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assists. | |
